Wildlife
Where People and Nature
Thrive in Harmony
Babirwa’s bushveld is a reminder of the biodiversity we protect, and we are home to a spectacular range of wildlife species. You’ll find kudu cows quietly feeding among the trees and roan antelope, one of Africa’s rarest and most striking species, thriving as part of our ongoing conservation efforts to grow their numbers in the wild.
Our reserve is home to a rich ecosystem where people and nature coexist in balance. Our local zebra graze alongside springbok and impala, while giraffe move gracefully through the acacia trees.
We are proud of the healthy buffalo within the reserve, completing a mix of species that reflects our commitment to sustainable wildlife management. For bird enthusiasts, Babirwa offers exceptional birdwatching opportunities, with a wide variety of rare species to observe throughout the year. And, if you’re lucky, you may spot the elusive leopard. Dusk is best; look for rosette shadows and a white-tipped tail flick.
Nature conservation
Our conservation programme focuses on protecting and rehabilitating wildlife, ensuring that animals breed naturally and endangered species continue to recover. This approach allows guests to experience the bushveld as it was meant to be – thriving, diverse, and protected for generations to come.
