A naturally immersive
bush experience
to disconnect
Babirwa is a beautiful private escape set in indigenous bushveld surrounded by rolling hills. This sustainable bush environment combines the beauty of nature with the warmth of African hospitality. Here, our Babirwa team welcomes guests personally and professionally.
Babirwa
was settled on a historic tin mine
Originally, Babirwa was settled on a historic Rooiberg tin mine (1905-1914) in the Waterberg district of Limpopo province, South Africa. The remoteness of the mine is exactly what makes Babirwa so desirable as a bush destination today. The ground and lands were rehabilitated for long-term sustainability and natural conservation. Today it is a secluded private game farm that contributes to the conservation of the Waterberg, and to responsible wildlife, safari and cultural tourism. The game farm generates revenue for local and national infrastructure development. The name, Babirwa, is that of a family clan, honouring the heritage and family roots of the Babirwa people from the northern parts of Limpopo.

18 Hole
PGA Rated Golf Course
Our private 18-hole, PGA-rated course offers a world-class round in the heart of the
bushveld, often with antelope crossing your fairway. It’s just you and your group in the African wilderness: safe and unhurried, with trained caddies on hand. Our contemporary African clubhouse overlooks the Waterberg range and welcomes you back with a bar, lounge, terrace and outdoor fire cooking space. Perfect for corporate escapes seeking real connection – through the joy of golf and the calm of nature.
Babirwa in a day
This is the place to unwind, relax, heal and restore: on a walking safari among giraffe and antelope, or on a sunrise or sunset personalised game drive with our experienced guides who know the Waterberg intimately. If you’re lucky, you may spot our shy resident leopard at dusk, or discover birds you’ve never seen close up, or learn about our named trees and the roles they play in the bushveld.

Inspired by
Nature
Babirwa’s utterly delicious bush cuisine is a big feature, and our menus are both seasonal and sustainable, inspired by nature. The greenhouse walk is a must, where guests learn about the ingredients that feed our souls. It’s every chef’s dream to work with organic food, and we have a culinary head start, as all our vegetables and herbs are grown on our land.

Our treatments
blend traditional therapy
with African Wellness
During the warm days, we offer an outdoor spa experience that transforms and heals our guests. Located in a tranquil natural setting, the spa brings nature closer, and includes a swimming pool and nature walks, against a background of the sounds of nature. Our therapists blend traditional spa therapy with wellness and breathing techniques, with the scent of hand-crafted marula candles adding to the immersive experience. Our guests are welcomed with time-honoured rituals using replenishing salts and ceremonial hand-washing, where they inhale the peace of the bush with medicinal herbs such as impepho, translated as incense – an African herb, and fragrant marula oil.
